Linda M. Lopez is a native New Mexican, born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Linda graduated from Valley High School in 1981 with honors. She has a B.A. in Business Management and an M.B.A. in Human Resource Development from the College of Santa Fe.
Ms. Lopez was elected to the New Mexico State Senate in 1996 and is currently in her 7th term. She has served as the Democratic Senate Caucus Chair and as Senate Majority Whip. She served as Chair of the Senate Rules Committee for 19 years, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee for 26 years, and now serves on the Tax, Business and Transportation Committee. During the interim, Linda serves on several committees and has recently served as Chair of the Welfare Reform Oversight Committee, the Election Reform Task Force, Co-Chair of the Legislative Ethics Committee, and Co-Chair of the 2011 and 2021 Redistricting Committee. Linda has also served as Chair of the Bernalillo County Democratic Party from 2002-2005.
Ms. Lopez has served on several local non-profit boards and has also owned a small business specializing in organizational development. She has been recognized in the International Who’s Who of Entrepreneurs 2001-2002 and in The Almanac of Latino Politics 2000.
Ms. Lopez is the proud mother of Lorenzo Procopio, a 22-year-old attending CNM and guardian to 10-year-old Cherish Rose.
